Ex-striker impressed as Tottenham set to land 'exciting' Perkins from big spenders

Frank McAvennie has hailed the decision to add Chris Perkins to the recruitment team at Tottenham.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to Spurs’ reported latest hire.

On 22nd July, Liverpool Echo stated Everton are looking for a new Head of Academy Recruitment with Perkins currently on gardening leave.

It is claimed he is set to join Tottenham in a key recruitment role after just 18 months on Merseyside.

He will join Fabio Paratici and Nuno Espirito Santo as new hires at Tottenham this summer as the club experiences a shakeup.

McAvennie claims the appointment is low risk but could prove to be very fruitful if Perkins proves to have an eye for spotting top talent.

“If he picks out a quality player, he pays for himself,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“It’s low cost and if he unearths a gem it’s a win-win. It’s very low risk with an appointment like that.

“Tottenham need some good signings, they have had too many that haven’t done it.

“It’s good that they have recognised that. The club is all change. They needed a new everything.

“They have a director of football now and a new manager. So getting a new scout in like that makes sense. It’s exciting.”

Tottenham are looking to improve on the poor showing in 2020-21 that cost Jose Mourinho his job.

Nuno will be looking to lead the club back to the Champions League after his new side only qualified for the new UEFA Europa Conference league last season.
