Ex-striker: Man United have made contact about signing Messi in last 48 hours
Frank McAvennie insists Manchester United had conversations about signing Lionel Messi over the last few days.
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on Messi’s future.
Messi will be unveiled as PSG’s latest signing during a press conference on Wednesday morning (11th August).
The French club teased his arrival on Tuesday afternoon after his sensational departure from Barcelona.
Sky Sports report PSG will pay Messi £25million per year after tax and that he will sign a two-year deal.
McAvennie insists Red Devils chiefs must have held talks about signing Messi and he claims the financial burden wouldn’t be an issue for the club.

“Can you imagine Man United going and buying Messi?” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It’s only meant to be £50million or something, PSG are offering £25million per year.
“Man United would get that back in no time because of merchandise alone.
“Can you imagine that? I wouldn’t be surprised if the question was asked. I’m sure there were talks.
“There must have been a conversation, talks, even a brief one. Just one even ‘can we do it?’
“It’s a shame it looks like he’s going to PSG, I would love to see him in the Premier League.
“If anyone could get him to the Premier League, it would be them.”
Man United have signed Jadon Sancho and agreed a deal in principle for Raphael Varane this summer.
Their Premier League campaign gets underway with a home tie against Leeds United this weekend.
