Ex-striker thrilled by Newcastle owner plans after 'speaking to Keegan'
Noel Whelan has insisted Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer would make “perfect ambassadors” for the new regime at Newcastle.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, revealed he had spoken to Keegan recently and discussed the ex-manager’s ever-lasting passion for the Magpies.
The Daily Mail reported yesterday (October 7th) that the legendary duo have been contacted by the new ownership regarding ambassadorial roles.
A Saudi-backed consortium fronted by Amanda Staveley completed a £305million takeover of Newcastle yesterday.
Whelan insisted now is the time for Magpies fans and players to unite to bring “that happy feel” back to St James’ Park.
“Those two players have a huge history at that football club,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“They’re huge figures and huge personalities.”
“I know for a fact that Kevin Keegan still loves the club, I spoke to him not long ago and he’s the perfect ambassador, as is Alan Shearer.
“They are two people in different eras that were at the height of their game and were the best in the world at times.
“You need ambassadors like that, you need faces like them.
“They’re two real gentlemen but they were fiercely competitive on the pitch, and they love the club.
“And that’s what it’s all about, it’s about where your heart is. For Kevin, it’s Liverpool and Newcastle.
“But for Alan Shearer – he is Mr Newcastle. It would be great for the fans to see those two around the ground and the club, it would mean so much to them.
“You can’t get two better people than them to become ambassadors for the club.”
“Now’s the time for everyone to come together after years of being apart. The players, fans and club can bring that happy feel back to St James’ Park.”
