Ibrox Exclusive: McNamara blown away by 'Excellent' Rangers ace, makes comparison to Celtic star
Jackie McNamara gushed about Rangers midfielder Steven Davis following his performance in the 2-1 win over Celtic.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Hoops enforcer shared he thought Davis was arguably the Gers’ best player on Sunday.
The 34-year-old midfielder was recalled by Steven Gerrard to Rangers’ starting line-up after a cameo appearance in the Boxing Day win over Kilmarnock.
McNamara compared Davis with Celtic star Scott Brown and said the Rangers midfielder effectively did what the Hoops captain usually does in matches by organising his side on Sunday.
When asked whether Davis made the difference as he was everywhere against Celtic, McNamara told Football Insider: “Yeah, I thought he was excellent.
“He was possibly Rangers’ best player on the day, he organised the team.

“He did what Scott Brown does for Celtic, but the difference was he had the players in front of him.
“The attacking three were getting in the right positions, working together, whereas the Celtic players were too far apart, stayed wide, quite rigid and were easy to mark.”
Davis recently missed four matches, including the Scottish Cup final loss to Celtic, due to a bruised foot.
The experienced midfielder, who has 107 caps for Northern Ireland, rejoined the Gers on a permanent basis in the summer after spending part of his 2018/19 campaign on loan Ibrox from Southampton.
Davis recently signed a contract extension with Steven Gerrard’s side in order to signal his intent to stay with the Gers until at least 2021.
