Blackpool are set to beat Sunderland to the signing of Rotherham striker Jerry Yates, Football Insider can reveal.
The Tangerines are closing in on the capture of the 23-year-old after agreeing a six-figure fee with the Yorkshire club.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that a deal for Yates could now be finalised in the next 48 hours.
This site broke the news of the Black Cats’ interest in the front man last month before Blackpool leapfrogged them in the race.
The north-west club are now firmly in pole position to seal a deal for the forward following his impressive spell on loan at Swindon Town.
Rotherham recently triggered a clause in Yates’ contract to extend his deal by 12 months, ensuring they will receive a fee for his services should he depart.
Blackpool have had a bid accepted and are now discussing personal terms with the striker.
Should a deal be finalised as expected, it will bring to an end his lengthy association with the Yorkshire club.
Yates, a product of Rotherham’s academy, has only made sporadic appearances for the Millers’ first-team during his six years with the club, scoring five times in 44 appearances.
The Doncaster-born centre-forward has just completed the best season of his career while on loan at Swindon.
In 36 appearances in all competitions this season, Yates scored 14 goals and 13 of those came in league matches to help the League Two outfit clinch the title.
In other Sunderland news, Football Insider can reveal the club have accepted a six-figure bid from a Premier League big gun.
