Alan Hutton urged Aston Villa attacker Scott Hogan to join Celtic upon hearing that they’re reportedly considering a bid for him.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Scotland international shared that he thought the 27-year-old’s career has stalled at Villa and he needs to join a club where he’ll feel wanted.
It was recently reported the Hoops are considering a bid to bring Hogan to Parkhead this month and the Villans will not stand in the way of a loan move to Glasgow.
The Republic of Ireland international is currently on loan at Stoke City for the season but the Potters are willing to let him go elsewhere as he’s not in Michael O’Neill’s plans.
Hutton explained that he thought Hogan would thrive at the Hoops and pointed out the attacker needs to be at a club where he could get a run of games.
When asked if Celtic signing Hogan from Villa would be the best move for all parties, Hutton told Football Insider: “Yeah, I’ve seen that and I think for him personally, it’ll definitely be a good move.
“I think he’ll enjoy going up there, playing in front of 50-60,000 every week, it would be a great move for him and his career.
“Since he has come to Villa, his career has kind of stalled, his loan at Sheffield United didn’t work out, Stoke hasn’t quite worked out.
“So he needs to go somewhere where he is going to play games, get a run of games in the team and really feel wanted.
“And I think somewhere like that playing under Neil Lennon, that’s what he’ll get.
“Playing in a great atmosphere on big nights at Celtic Park, I’m sure he’ll thrive.”
Hogan has played 15 times for Stoke this season, scoring two goals and registering one assist in the process.
The centre-forward has been on Aston Villa’s books since January 2017 and his Villans contract isn’t due to expire until 2021.
