Carlo Ancelotti has told Everton chiefs to pull out all the stops to sign Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes this summer, Football Insider can reveal.
The Merseysiders have been pursuing the 22-year-old for months but the deal was on the verge of collapse last month after the two clubs failed to agree a fee following extensive talks.
An Everton source has told Football Insider that Ancelotti has made it clear to the club’s hierarchy that Magalhaes is his number one centre-back target.
There is also interest from Man United in the left-footed defender but the three-times Champions League winning manager wants to blow them out of the water.
Everton have already offered over £20m for Magalhaes as well as a long-term contract to the player.
But Lille have been holding out for nearly £30million for the Brazilian and had been hopeful of achieving that given the interest in him.
Ancelotti’s demands are now set to bring the Merseysiders back to the negotiating table.
Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings is another target of Everton and they have made an initial enquiry for him.
But the Midlands giants’ Premier League survival significantly strengthens their chances of keeping hold of him.
Magalhaes has been targeted by Everton’s recruitment team after having the best of his three years at Lille before the French season was terminated in April.
He made 34 appearances this season as his side finished fourth in Ligue 1 and six in the Champions League as they ended bottom of a strong group that included Valencia, Chelsea and Ajax.
