Arsenal have set their sights on signing Sheffield United duo John Fleck and George Baldock ahead of the summer window, Football Insider has learned.

The pair have been key members of the United side that has punched above their weight to climb to seventh spot in their first season back in the Premier League.

An Arsenal source has told Football Insider that manager Arteta has been hugely impressed by the duo’s performances for Chris Wilder’s side, including in the 1-1 draw between the clubs on Saturday.

The Gunners regard the two proven performers as long-term targets and know they could not recruit them in the current window.

Central midfielder Fleck, 28, scored a late equaliser to ensure a share of the points, his fifth Premier League goal of the season.

Right-back Baldock, 26, also played the full 90 minutes at Emirates Stadium as United stayed ahead of Arsenal in the league table, with 33 points compared to 29.

Manager Chris Wilder will not want to sell either of the pair, who were also integral to last season’s promotion campaign.

Fleck has a contract that expires in the summer of 2021, which makes the Blades vulnerable to interested clubs at the end of this campaign.

Baldock signed a new deal last August that runs until the summer of 2022.

He has started all 23 of United’s Premier League matches this season, while Fleck has begun 20 of them.

In other Arsenal news, it can be REVEALED that the club are keen on making Premier League 23-year-old their marquee summer signing.
