Arsenal want Eddie Nketiah to be playing regularly in the second half of the season amid growing doubts over his Leeds United loan, Football Insider can reveal.
The Londoners can take advantage of a January recall clause in the striker’s season-long contract if he has not played a set number of minutes.
An Arsenal source has told Football Insider that Nketiah has had well below the game time the club wanted and they are keeping close tabs on whether than changes in the coming weeks.
The Premier League giants are in no doubt that the forward’s development is best served by being in a team where he is getting regular senior matches.
This comes after Football Insider broke the news yesterday that Leeds are expecting Arsenal to recall Nketiah from his season-long loan in January.
United want the striker to stay, and they retain hope he will do so, but the club have now started actively looking at strikers to replace the 20-year-old in the upcoming window.
Nketiah has missed Leeds’ last four matches, including Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Reading, with what the club have claimed is an abdominal injury.
But Marcelo Bielsa revealed he is due to return to full training tomorrow as he steps up his comeback bid.
However, there is the growing prospect he may leave Leeds without ever starting a league game for them.
Nketiah has not started a single Championship match for Leeds since signing from Arsenal in August despite making a big impact as a substitute.
His total of 430 minutes of first-team action has yielded five goals in all competitions, including two strikes in his only two starts, both of which came in the League Cup.
Bielsa has selected Patrick Bamford to spearhead the Leeds attack in all 18 of their league matches this season.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club’s Kiko Casilla hopes rise after significant developments behind the scenes.
