EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke
Sheffield United have agreed a deal to sign Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan on loan and the deal is set to be finalised today, Football Insider understands.
Hogan has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the Villa side since his arrival for £12million from Brentford in January 2017.
The Republic of Ireland international, who has scored only seven goals during his two years at Villa Park, is well down the pecking order in Dean Smith’s plans and Villa are happy to loan him out.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Hogan is undergoing a medical at United and complete the transfer in the next 24 hours.
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is understood to be a big admirer of Hogan and tried to sign the player during the summer transfer window.
Wilder has continued to keep tabs on Hogan’s situation and he is now ready to bring the forward to Bramall Lane.
Sheffield United have already brought in Kieran Dowell and Gary Madine on loan during this month’s transfer window and now Hogan is poised to become the third new face to arrive at the club as they look to maintain their push for promotion from the Premier League.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, the club have made a move to sign a Sheffield Wednesday ace as talks over a deal have begun.
