Aston Villa winger Andre Green is in advanced talks to join Preston North End, Football Insider understands.

Preston boss Alex Neil is keen to bring in a new attacker to replace Callum Robinson and he has targeted a move for the blisteringly quick forward.

A Villa source has told Football Insider that discussions with the north-west Championship outfit over Green, 20, spending the season on loan are now in the final stages and a deal could be imminent.

Villa boss Dean Smith is an admirer of Green, but he is ready to sanction a loan move so that the exciting forward can continue his development with regular first-team football.

The youngster spent the first half of last season on loan at Portsmouth before being recalled by Villa during the January window and he played his part in their successful promotion to the Premier League.

Green is likely to find his first-team opportunities limited this season following Villa's extraordinary summer recruitment drive with 11 new players arriving and more set to follow.

Green has 48 appearances for Villa's first-team under his belt, 22 of those coming last season in a campaign which saw him net once.

He also has two Premier League outings, totalling 57 minutes of game time, to his name, appearing as a substitute against Tottenham and Swansea City in their relegation campaign.
