Aston Villa and Birmingham City are tracking Peterborough starlet Luke Strachan, Football Insider sources understand.

Villa and Birmingham scouts have been keeping tabs on Strachan and they are weighing up moves for the player if he continues his rapid development.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Peterborough would be loathe to lose one of their young prized prospects, but are bracing themselves for interest in Strachan.

Villa are primed to make a move to sign the midfielder and fend off bitter rivals Birmingham.

Strachan, grandson of Scotland boss Gordon and son of former Peterborough first-team coach, Gavin, has caught the eye for Peterborough's Under-18s this season.

The talented midfielder made an impact for the club's Under-18s last season and he has continued to impress this term, scoring in the win over AFC Wimbledon earlier this month.

Strachan has come through the youth ranks at Peterborough and the club have high hopes for the midfielder.

The teenager's displays for Peterborough's youth sides have brought him to the attention of clubs higher up the football pyramid with Championship duo Aston Villa and Birmingham among interested suitors.
