Wonderkid striker Louie Barry has jetted into the UK to complete a £3million transfer to Aston Villa from Barcelona, Football Insider can reveal.
The 16-year-old was at the Premier League club’s Bodymoor Heath training headquarters yesterday putting the finishing touches to the move.
A Villa source has told Football Insider that the club are preparing to announce the capture of Barry just six months after he joined Barca.
The England Under-17s forward has agreed terms with Villa despite making a good impression in Spain.
He was highly regarded by the Spanish giants but wanted to return to the Midlands.
Barry left West Brom upset when he quit last summer after 10 years to head to the Continent.
His former club have been further antagonised by the prospect of him now joining one of their big rivals amid speculation the route abroad and back home had been carefully planned.
It is not seen as a coincidence that former West Brom academy manager, Mark Harrison, joined Aston Villa last September in an almost identical role.
Villa have been one of the most active Premier League clubs this month as they look to avoid instant relegation.
They have already signed former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina on loan from AC Milan, while Danny Drinkwater has joined from Chelsea.
The club are also in talks to sign striker Mbwana Samatta from Genk for £8.5million.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that Middlesbrough have set their sights on signing Villa man after contract opening.
