Exclusive: Aston Villa set to terminate loan deal early

Aston Villa are ready to terminate Andre Green’s loan deal at Preston North End ahead of the January window, Football Insider understands.

The super-quick forward, 21, has been frozen out of the Preston line-up in recent months and made just six appearances all season.

A Villa source has told Football Insider that the club are keen to reach an agreement with Preston over ending Green’s season-long loan at the midway point.

The England Under-20 international’s future at his parent club is also up in the air as his contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

One possibility is that he returns to Villa Park and goes on a fresh loan in January while, alternatively, he

Villa had hoped Green would be a regular in Alex Neil’s side after dropping down to the Championship but that has not proved to be the case.

He has made only two starts all season – both in the League Cup – and has failed to start a single Championship match.

Indeed, Green last made a matchday squad for a league fixture on 22 October, a clear sign of where he stands in the pecking order of the third-placed team in the division.

Green has made 48 appearances for Villa since graduating from their youth ranks.

He spent the first half of last season on loan at Portsmouth in League One, scoring five times in 12 matches.
