Aston Villa must make around £30million worth of player sales within days to avoid breaching the profit and sustainability rules (PSR), sources have told Football Insider

The West Midlands giants have faced PSR issues over the past couple of years after spending close to the allowable losses limit.

Under the PSR rules, Premier League clubs are only permitted to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.

Football Insider revealed on 18 June Villa’s president of football operations, Monchi, is working around the clock to secure a big-name exit by the 30 June cut-off.

Douglas Luiz, Tim Iroegbunam and Omari Kellyman all moved on before last year’s accounting deadline to help them avoid a spending breach.

Sources have told Football Insider Villa must now make around £30million worth of player sales in the coming days to comply with the regulations.

Unai Emery’s side posted a club-record revenue in 2023-24 after their turnover increased from £217.7million in 2022-23 to £275.7million, while their losses fell from £119.6million to £85.4million.

Aston Villa ready to sell three stars this week

Emiliano Martinez, Youri Tielemans and Amadou Onana are among the first-team stars who could be offloaded for the kind of money that would enable Villa to avoid a financial breach and a potential points deduction.

Martinez is regarded as the most likely player to leave after he’s been heavily linked with an exit in recent weeks.

Football Insider revealed on 19 June Martinez has his “heart set” on joining Atletico Madrid, while Manchester United have also registered an interest in securing his signature.

The trio have been told they are free to find new clubs as Villa Park chiefs look to ease their PSR concerns.
