Aston Villa are working on a last-gasp deal to sign Crystal Palace defender Pape Souare but face competition from Bolton Wanderers, Football Insider sources understands.
Villa and Bolton are both looking to strengthen their left-back options before the loan window closes on Friday and they have identified Souare as a top target.
Villa are still keen to bring in a left-back after Fulham hijacked their move for Joe Bryan at the eleventh hour earlier this summer, while Bolton boss Phil Parkinson is determined to add to his squad before Friday’s transfer deadline.
Palace are willing to loan out Souare as he is behind Patrick Van Aanholt and Jeffrey Schlupp in the pecking order in Roy Hodgson’s plans at Selhurst Park.
The 28-year-old has made just five first-team appearances since returning from a broken leg he suffered in a car crash in 2016.
Palace are happy to loan him so that he can get regular first-team football under his belt to try and regain his match sharpness.
In other Aston Villa news, the club are locked in talks over the transfer of a 29-year-old with bitter rivals.
