Barnsley have agreed a deal to sign Liverpool midfielder Herbie Kane on loan, Football Insider understands.
The 21-year-old has been given the green light to leave Anfield on a temporary basis again after spells with Doncaster Rovers and Hull City over the past two seasons.
A source at Liverpool has told Football Insider that the goalscoring midfielder is set to drop back into the Championship to join Barnsley after successful talks between the two clubs.
Kane, who joined Liverpool’s academy from Bristol City back in 2013, has struggled to make the breakthrough into the senior side at Anfield, with just two first-team appearances under his belt.
He left Merseyside to join Doncaster Rovers on loan for the 2018/19 season and played 49 times across all competitions, with seven goals and 10 assists to his name.
Having remained with Liverpool for the first half of last season, which saw him make his debut in the League Cup win over MK Dons, Kane headed back out on loan in January to play for Hull in the Championship.
However, injury plagued his time with the Tigers and he scored just twice in nine appearances as the club were relegated to League One.
He is now set to return to the second tier of English football with Barnsley as the Yorkshire outfit look to make late additions ahead of Friday’s domestic transfer deadline.
The Tykes, who are currently without a permanent first-team manager following Gerhard Struber’s move to New York Red Bulls, sit 21st in the Championship table after four games.
In other Liverpool news, Football Insider has delivered a major update on the future of Harry Wilson.
