Darren Bent gushed about the promising partnership that is forming between Everton defenders Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England international shared that he had enjoyed Mina being a beast at the back for the Toffees and liked how Marco Silva had opted to pair him with Holgate.

The Toffees boss has opted to play Mina and Holgate at the heart of the club’s defence in the last three games, and the Toffees didn’t suffer a defeat in any of those matches.

Bent explained that he thought the two defenders worked well together due to both being comfortable on the ball as well as powerful, but he did make clear that he believes that Mina was going to need to take a senior role in the partnership.

When asked about Mina being a beast at the back and forming a promising partnership with Holgate, Bent told Football Insider: “Yeah he is at the minute and I like that.

“They’re good players, they can work together, they’re both powerful, they’re both good on the ball, it’s just about them working together to do the best for Everton football club.

“Mina is going to be seen as the more senior player, he needs to take more of a senior approach.”

Holgate only played 17 minutes of the Toffees’ opening eight league games however has seemingly worked his ways into Silva’s plans as he has played every minute of the club’s last three league matches.

Mina, on the other hand, has played all but 90 minutes of Everton’s Premier League campaign so far, with him only missing the 3-2 loss to Brighton at the end of the October due to a knee injury.
