Darren Bent revealed he is surprised that Everton aren’t trying to sign Rangers attacker Alfredo Morelos.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa attacker claimed that Rangers could cope with selling Morelos for £20m+ as they have got Jermain Defoe waiting in the wings.
Morelos has scored 22 goals and registered seven assists in his first 26 appearances of the season for the Gers, and recently grabbed his first goal for Colombia during their 1-0 win over Peru.
Bent explained that while Morelos could be a little temperamental, the 23-year-old could score goals and had great ability, so wasn’t sure why the Toffees hadn’t been linked with making a move.
“I’m surprised Everton don’t try to go and sign him,” Bent told Football Insider.
“He’s a bit temperamental, but he can score goals, he’s got the great ability and to be fair to Rangers if they can go and get a load of money for him, let’s say £20m+ for him, they’ve still got, Jermain Defoe who gets goals week-in-week-out.”
Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson recently insisted in an interview that Rangers do not have to sell prized assets such as Morelos in January despite the club needing to raise £10m before the end of the season.
Everton have struggled for goals this season in the Premier League as they’ve only managed to score 13 in their first 12 games of the season.
Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are the Toffees’ top-goalscorers for this season, across all competitions, having both racked up five goals so far.
