Bournemouth striker Josh King would be “the perfect signing” for Aston Villa, according to Darren Bent.
The former Villa and England hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits adding the Norway international to the squad should be a “no brainer” for manager Dean Smith.
As revealed by Football Insider, the Villans are preparing a last-minute bid for the 28-year-old forward ahead of Friday’s domestic transfer deadline.
Villa have already added Ollie Watkins as a new centre-forward, with young Keinan Davis and long-term absentee Wesley Moraes already on their books.
Bent believes that King would offer some much-needed experience and quality in a variety of positions up front.
Bent told Football Insider: “Josh King for me would be the perfect signing so it doesn’t surprise me there are a fair few people in for him.
“He can play so many different roles, he can play across the front three and not only that, he’s a proven Premier League goalscorer, he can play at a high level and he’s an international.
“If Villa can add what they’ve got there already, that is some bit of business for Dean Smith and Aston Villa and we should commend them for that. For me it’s a no brainer, if they can get it over the line then that’s a fantastic bit of business.”
King has netted 48 goals and chipped in with a further 15 assists in 161 Premier League appearances to date.
He has played just once in the Championship for Bournemouth this season as he featured as a substitute against Norwich City.
