Darren Bent has urged Jose Mourinho to give sometimes “brilliant” Lucas Moura the chance to build on his display at Tottenham after Thursday’s 3-1 win over Ludogorets.

The former Spurs and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, suggested that the right-hand side of the Lilywhites’ attack was an “issue” for Jose Mourinho that needed addressing.

Lucas, 28, scored once and chipped in with an assist in Thursday’s win Bulgaria in what was his 13th appearance of the season.

However, the Brazilian winger has started just seven times as he battles it out with the likes of Gareth Bale, Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn for a place in attack.

Bent has suggested that Lucas, who was left as an unused substitute against Brighton last weekend, needs to be given a run of games to help build on Thursday’s performance.

Bent told Football Insider: “He’s (Lucas) another one that’s shown flashes of brilliance but then gets left out, he hasn’t really consistently played either.

“When you think of Lucas Moura, you think of the performance against Man United at Old Trafford or the Champions League semi-final. He’s never really been able to build on these type of performances.

“At the minute, that right side seems to be a bit of an issue – they know Heung-min Son’s on the left, Harry Kane’s down the middle but who’s going to step up and take that right-hand side void against West Brom? He can.

“If you’re not playing week in, week out, how can you expect anyone to step up and say: ‘I’ll have it?'”

Lucas has a total of 27 goals and 13 assists under his belt in 120 appearances for Spurs since signing for £25m from PSG.

The Lilywhites’ next game sees them take on a struggling West Brom side away from home on Sunday.
