Darren Bent admits that Everton winger Bernard has him tearing his hair out with his inconsistent performances for the Toffees.

The former Tottenham and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the Brazilian maestro has the ability to dazzle the Goodison Park faithful but that he does not do it enough.

The diminutive attacker has been in and out the side through injury and form this season, with just two goals and two assists in his 15 Premier League appearances.

Bent says that he knows the 27-year-old has the ability to run the game and put opposition defences to the sword but that he more often than not leaves much to be desired.

Bent told Football Insider: “Bernard, he’s just got that explosive pace, trickery, can get past people – the only thing about him is that with the ability that he’s got, he should be doing more.

“He should have done so much more, he’s one of the players where can frustrate you a little bit. You know he’s got the ability, you know full well it’s in there, if he put it in all the time he could put in performance after performance.

“When he fancies it and he’s playing well, he can destroy anybody, he can rip teams apart. There’s too many inconsistent performances.”

Bernard, who signed for Everton back in the summer of 2018, has 54 appearances under his belt, with just four goals and six assists to his name.

He managed to set up Moise Kean for his first goal in English football on Tuesday night, the Italian scoring during the dramatic 2-2 draw with Newcastle United.
