Exclusive: Bent tips Tottenham and Arsenal to battle for Liverpool player who wants 2020 exit
Darren Bent tipped Tottenham and Arsenal to end up battling for Liverpool attacker Xherdan Shaqiri as both would potentially consider signing him.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Tottenham forward shared he could envision both North London clubs being keen on Shaqiri and admitted he wouldn’t be short of takers.
Bent shared that Shaqiri didn’t have to fear leaving Anfield even if he wants to stay in the Premier League, despite the 28-year-old winger struggling for minutes.
When asked which Premier League teams could end up banging down Liverpool’s door for Shaqiri, Bent told Football Insider: “I think Arsenal would probably take him, Manchester City nope, Chelsea nope, Spurs may potentially take him as well.
“I think there will be no shortage of takers so he has nothing to fear about that.”
Shaqiri has played just 11 minutes of Premier League action this season and has seen a calf injury not help his chances of climbing up the pecking order.
The Switzerland international joined the Reds from Stoke City in July 2018 after Jurgen Klopp’s side activated £13million release clause and he managed to rack up six goals and five assists in his debut campaign.
Shaqiri has played 110 times in the Premier League during his career so far and the winger has contributed a total of 23 goals and 27 assists when playing in England’s top-flight.
In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that there are major doubts over Son Heung-Min’s Spurs future amid developments behind the scenes.
