Exclusive: Bent urges Spurs to hijack reported West Ham pursuit - 'That is a gamechanger'

Darren Bent urged Tottenham to swoop for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly upon hearing that West Ham were reportedly in pursuit of the centre-back.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Spurs striker admitted signing Koulibaly would be a gamechanger for the Hammers.

It was recently reported that David Moyes’ side have emerged as a shock contender for Koulibaly with him rated as being worth £70million.

It is believed that the 28-year-old centre-back has been a long-time target for Spurs but it’s the Hammers willing to splash money during the current transfer window.

Bent explained that if a team like West Ham think they can get Koulibaly then surely Spurs and teams like that need to go and get him.

When asked about the Hammers’ pursuit of Koulibaly, Bent told Football Insider: “If West Ham can get him, that is a gamechanger.

“That is where Spurs and Arsenal should be aiming their sights at to get him.

“Koulibaly, £70million, if West Ham think they can get him, surely Spurs and teams like that need to go and get him.”

Koulibaly has played 20 times across all competitions for Napoli this season and has helped the Italian side keep six clean sheets in the process.

The Senegal international has been with Napoli since joining from Belgian side Genk in 2014 and is contracted to stay with the Serie A club until 2023.

In other West Ham news, it can be REVEALED that the club have opened talks with Joe Cole.
