Blackburn Rovers are set to miss out on signing midfielder Jaka Bijol as he closes in on a move to Hannover 96, Football Insider understands.
Rovers had tabled a bid for the Slovenia international that was rejected by the 21-year-old’s current side CSKA Moscow.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Bijol is now in advanced talks to join Hannover 96 after he agreed personal terms with the 2. Bundesliga outfit.
Rovers have made significant investment into their European scouting network over the past year as manager Tony Mowbray looks to improve the club’s recruitment moving forward.
The club made their first foray into the foreign market this summer with the signing of goalkeeper Thomas Kaminsk from Belgian side KAA Gent.
However, they are set to miss out on Bijol as he closes in
The 21-year-old, who has three years left on his current contract, joined the Russian giants two years ago from Slovenian side NK Rudar Velenje.
He has scored five goals in 53 league games for CSKA and also has experience playing in the Champions League and Europa League.
Hannover 96 finished sixth in last season’s 2. Bundesliga as they looked to make an immediate return to the German top flight.
They finished seven points behind third place and a chance at the promotion play-offs and 10 points behind the automatic promotion places.
Boss Kenan Kocak has already added 10 players to his squad in the transfer window but have only paid a fee for Ghanaian midfielder Patrick Twumasi.
