Brentford a plotting a move to sign Colchester United defender Cohen Bramall as a potential replacement for Rico Henry, Football Insider understands.
The Bees fear that the 23-year-old left-back could leave the club after their play-off final heartbreak against Fulham on Tuesday night.
A source at Brentford has told Football Insider that the club have set their sights on 24-year-old Bramall to fill the void after his impressive form in League Two this season.
Henry was a mainstay for Thomas Frank during the 2019/20 campaign and started every single one of the club’s Championship games, including their three play-off fixtures.
The former Walsall man arrived at Griffin Park back in 2016 and has played a total of 87 times for the Bees to date.
However, with Brentford set for another season in the Championship, the club fear that Henry could be one of a number of star players on the move this summer.
It is understood they have identified Bramall as a player who could step up from the lower reaches of the EFL and are considering launching a move for his capture if they do lose their current first-team ace.
The Us’ star joined the club from Premier League giants Arsenal last summer after two years on the Gunners’ books.
After an indifferent start to life at the Colchester Community Stadium – which included a red card in just his second league appearance – he went on to establish himself among the starting XI and played a total of 32 times across all competitions.
He helped the club reach the League Two play-off semi-finals last season while he also featured in the shock League Cup win over Tottenham back in September.
Bramall already has five games of Championship experience under his belt after a season-long loan spell with Birmingham between 2017 and 2018.
