Exclusive: Brentford submit £3m double bid for EFL forwards

Brentford have made a £3million bid to sign Oxford United winger Tarique Fosu-Henry and midfielder Shandon Baptiste in a double deal, Football Insider understands.

The 24-year-old attacker and 21-year-old central talent have emerged as two of the League One side’s top performers this season, impressing against Premier League opposition in the cups.

A source at Griffin Park has told Football Insider that the Bees are determined to bolster their midfield options before Friday’s deadline and have made an offer to sign both Oxford stars.

Fosu-Henry has impressed for Oxford down the left flank this season, scoring 10 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions after arriving from Charlton last summer.

Meanwhile, Baptiste is regarded as one of the best young midfielders in the Football League following a number of eye-catching performances for Karl Robinson’s men.

The pair have shone against Premier League duo West Ham and Manchester City in Oxford’s run to the quarter-finals of the League Cup, while they also both played in the FA Cup draw with Newcastle to show they can mix it with the best.

Oxford are reluctant to lose the influential duo as they look to make a push for promotion from League One, but Brentford are hoping their seven-figure bid will persuade them to do business.

The Bees currently sit fifth in the Championship, six points outside the automatic promotion spots, and they are expected to be busy in the final two days of the transfer window as they look to strengthen in their push for a place in the Premier League.
