'Interesting...' - Exclusive: Bruce on Ben White rejoining Brighton from Leeds

Alex Bruce has claimed Brighton will have to sell one of their centre-backs if they’re to free up space for Ben White to return from Leeds United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the just-retired footballing son of Steve Bruce has been hugely impressed by the “outstanding” performances of the 22-year-old this season.

White has had Premier League big guns beating a path to his door, with Leicester City the latest to express an interest in a summer deal while Liverpool are also watching him closely.

Brighton will have the final call on whether the centre-back returns to go straight into their squad, is sold on for a massive profit or, less likely, heads back to Leeds.

Bruce pointed out that the Seasiders have an abundance of senior centre-backs, including Lewis Dunk, Shane Duffy, Adam Webster and Dan Burn.

“Well if I was in charge of Brighton I would be looking to have him back, he’s been outstanding” Bruce told Football Insider. “But, then again, if there’s one area of the pitch where Brighton have got good numbers it’s at centre-half.

“You’ve got Dan Burn who’s done very well, you’ve got Webster, you’ve got Lewis Dunk,
you’ve got Duffy.

“It will be interesting to see Brighton, if they do stay up, if they’ll bring him back to
play him but then again they might have to offload one of them.

“If they sold Lewis Dunk, for example, you could potentially bring White in and have a lot of money to play with and strengthen in other areas. Interesting to see what they do.

White has only played twice for the Brighton first team and, prior to joining Leeds last July, had spent the previous two campaigns on loan in League One and League Two at Peterborough United and Newport County respectively.

The centre-back has started all 36 of United’s league matches this season and remarkably played every single minute of the Championship campaign.

He has filled in at defensive midfield when Marcelo Bielsa has been unable to call upon star midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club are closing in on £5million signing amid major behind-the-scenes development.
