Burnley are in advanced talks to sign Northern Ireland Under-17 international Dane McCullough, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 16-year-old is very highly rated in his country and currently plays for Portadown FC in the Irish Premiership.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Burnley are closing in on the signing of the teenage defender with negotiations at an advanced stage.

He is Portadown’s youngest ever player after he made his debut at the age of just 15 last year.

McCullough made two appearances in total last season, both as substitutes, as Portadown returned to the top-flight of Irish football after a three year hiatus.

The teenager would be Burnley’s first signing of the summer with Sean Dyche still yet to add to his squad at Turf Moor.

However, McCullough would not be a part of the first team picture in Lancashire and would become part of Academy Manager Jonathan Pepper’s youth set up.

It has been a quiet window so far for Dyche’s side but senior names Joe Hart, Aaron Lennon and Jeff Hendricks have left the club upon the expiration of their contracts.

The Clarets enjoyed a highly successful campaign last season and finished in the top 10 of the Premier League, their highest ever finish in the division.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that the club had joined the race to sign Olympique Lyonnais winger Bertrand Traore.

The former Chelsea winger is also wanted by West Ham three years after he left England for the French giants.

In other Burnley news, Paul Robinson has told Football Insider that it would take an a “very lucrative” offer to sign “outstanding” 28-year-old this summer.
