Cardiff City are lining up a move for Crewe Alexandra defender Perry Ng, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The 24-year-old has just six months left on his contract at Gresty Road and could become a free agent in the summer.
A Crewe source has told Football Insider that the club are aware of strong interest in their skipper from Championship club Cardiff.
The Liverpool-born defender has made 20 appearances for the League One club in all competitions this season, scoring once against Swindon Town.
However, Ng has not featured for the Railwaymen since their EFL Trophy exit to Hull City at the start of December.
The right-back was suspended for six-matches by the FA for a breach of FA Rule E1 after he was caught spitting water at Cheltenham coach Wade Elliott.
The ban was described as ‘clearly excessive’ by the Crewe captain, who has one more game of his suspension left to serve.
Ng is a product of Crewe’s academy, signing his first professional contract at the club in May 2014.
He was crowned the club’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year last season, after David Artell’s side gained promotion to the third-tier of English football.
His 183 career appearances for the Railwaymen have yielded seven goals and 15 assists.
Cardiff City boss Neil Harris is looking for reinforcements in the January transfer window after a run of just one win in the last five Championship games.
He has identified Crewe’s Perry Ng as a potential recruit, with the right-back likely to be available for a cut-price with his contract expiring in the summer.
