Leicester City are set to test Celtic with a bid for Callum McGregor after the expected sale of Harry Maguire, Football Insider has learned.
The Scottish giants are aware of interest from the Premier League club in the midfielder, 26, as Brendan Rodgers looks to be reunited with one of the star men of his three seasons in Glasgow.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider that Leicester are yet to table an offer for McGregor as their kitty for new signings is partly dependent upon Maguire.
Manchester City are in pole position to sign the England centre-back and, with negotiations over a deal ongoing with the Foxes, are hopeful of sealing a deal for around £65million.
The increasingly likely sale would free up cash for Rodgers to strengthen in other areas and he is keen to renew his association with serial trophy winner McGregor.
The source told Football Insider that Leicester are likely to start the bidding for the Scotland international at around the £15million mark.
Celtic are braced for sustained interest in another of their star academy products at a time when Arsenal are trying to prise Kieran Tierney from Parkhead.
Like Tierney, McGregor has been one of the key players during Celtic’s triple treble run, taking his game to a new level under Rodgers’ coaching in the last three years.
The versatile midfielder has made 224 appearances in total for his boyhood club, 59 of which came last season, and is also establishing himself as a key player for the Scotland national team.
In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED a deal is all but done as player agrees £12,000-a-week move to Parkhead in deal that includes pay-rise clauses.
