Exclusive: Celtic in confirmed talks to seal free transfer as Bruce wowed

Signing Steven Fletcher on a free transfer would be a “decent bit of business” for Celtic this summer, according to Alex Bruce.

The former Kilmarnock defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the striker would offer Neil Lennon some “valuable experience” in the dressing room at Parkhead.

The manager confirmed to Sky Sports News on Thursday that the Hoops are in talks with the 33-year-old over a potential free transfer to Parkhead, although the Bhoys boss outlined he was just one option being considered.

Fletcher is currently a free agent after he left Wednesday following a four-year spell at Hillsborough.

Bruce believes that the striker’s impressive record at a number of clubs proves he would be a great addition to the Celtic side and insists it would be savvy business to get him signed up for nothing.

Bruce told Football Insider: “He’s at a fair age now but he brings valuable experience.

“He’s been a very good player everywhere he’s been and I’m sure having him in the squad, if he does go to Celtic, would be a decent bit of business to have him as one of your options up front.”

Fletcher netted 13 goals in 27 Championship appearances for Sheffield Wednesday last season.

The 33-cap Scotland international already has over 130 Scottish Premiership games of experience under his belt after he broke through the youth ranks into the senior side at Hibernian.

In other Celtic news, Lennon has been tipped to axe a star who started v Hamilton in a “harsh” move.
