Alan Hutton claims Celtic will be desperate for former striker Moussa Dembele to seal a big-money move to Manchester United and net them a healthy windfall this summer.
The former Rangers and Scotland full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits the Bhoys could be set for a big boost in the transfer window should the 23-year-old return to the UK.
As revealed by Football Insider, the Hoops included a sell-on clause worth more than 10 per cent when they sold Dembele to Lyon back in the summer 2018.
The Daily Star report that Manchester United are increasingly confident of signing the Frenchman in a £60million deal this summer due to Lyon’s financial situation caused by the cancellation of the Ligue 1 season.
With a possible £6million-plus windfall on the cards for Celtic if the Premier League giants pull off the move, Hutton insists it has been a tremendous bit of business from the Bhoys.
“It’s absolutely ideal, you can’t beat it, they’ll be crossing their fingers hoping that goes through,” Hutton told Football Insider.
“£6million just for a clause put in, this is exactly the reason why people do it. They see a talented player, they recognise he could go on to a bigger team and kick on from that.
“They’ve obviously recognised that, put it in the contract and it’s a great bit of business. These are the sort of terms you find in contracts nowadays. It’s a great windfall and I’m sure they want to use that in the transfer market.”
Dembele netted a total of 51 goals in 94 appearances for the Hoops before leaving Parkhead for Lyon.
This season saw him net 22 times in 44 games before the French season was called off due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
