Celtic have submitted a £3million bid to Hajduk Split for left-back David Colina that’s been knocked back, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Hoops were linked with the Croatia Under-21 international earlier in the window as they look to strengthen their left flank.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Celtic will need to increase their offer to land 20-year-old Colina.
It is the latest twist in the Hoops’ search for a left-sided star who can provide cover and competition for Greg Taylor.
Celtic loaned out Boli Bolingoli to Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir earlier this month to free up space in the squad and on the wage bill.
Strengthening that position is a priority for Neil Lennon and the Hoops hierarchy ahead of Monday night’s transfer deadline.
Talks have also been held with Tottenham about a potential loan deal for Ryan Sessegnon following their £28million signing of Sergio Reguilon.
Celtic have tabled a multi-million loan offer but the Londoners want £5million in fee and wages for the £25million signing from Fulham.
Hajduk are said to value Collina far higher than £3m, with reports in Croatia claiming they have slapped a £5.4million price tag on him.
The club only paid £630,000 to sign the youngster from Monaco last summer.
He was in the Dinamo Zagreb ranks but left for his brief spell in France in 2018 before his return to the country.
Colina has made 29 appearances for Hajduk, seven of which have come at left-back in the new campaign.
