Celtic have been backed to beat Bayern Munich to the signing of highly rated young full back Aaron Hickey by Alan Hutton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Rangers full back tipped Celtic to enter the market for a new left back.
Boli Bolingoli is expected to leave the club after his unauthorised trip to Spain saw the Bhoys have two league games postponed by the Scottish club.
That would leave Neil Lennon with only Greg Taylor as his only option at left back.
Hearts’ left-footed defender Hickey, 18, was close to a move to AC Milan in January and now Bologna, Bayern Munich and Celtic are tracking his situation, according to a Sky Italia journalist.
Asked by Football Insider whether Lennon would be concerned about the current lack of competition at left back, Hutton said: “I think Greg Taylor’s career there started a little bit slow but we’re seeing the best of him now.
“Bolingoli, after what he’s done, we could’ve seen the end of him at Celtic. There’s talk of him moving on which makes me think they’ll go get somebody.
“I don’t think they’ll go through a season with just one left back.
“There’s talks of Aaron Hickey from Hearts, obviously there’s other teams like Bayern Munich seemingly interested in him. Whether that’s agent talk I’m not sure.
“He is definitely a player, at 18, who is only going to get better and would be a good signing for them.
“I do think they’ll look to bring somebody in that position over the coming weeks.”
Hickey had a spell in Celtic’s academy before rejoining Hearts in 2018 with Celtic set to receive 30% of a future transfer fee.
In other news, Football Insider can reveal Celtic are preparing a £2m+ bid and a 27-year-old will be sold for a muli-million fee.
