Exclusive: Celtic 'very keen' to sign English-club goalkeeper available for bargain fee

Celtic have set their sights on Stoke City goalkeeper Josef Bursik ahead of January, Football Insider can reveal.

The England Under-20 international is on the radar of the Glasgow giants after earning rave reviews for his progress in recent times.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider the club are keen to beat multiple rivals to the capture of the rising-star shot stopper.

The Scottish champions are aware that Bursik is out of contract at Stoke at the end of the season and can be prised from the English Championship outfit for a bargain fee if he does not agree a contract extension.

Celtic are “very keen” to get a deal done for Bursik, 19, before the Potters can persuade him to extend.

However, there is also interest from clubs including some in the Premier League.

Bursik is currently on a season-long loan at League One outfit Accrington and made his League debut in the 4-1 win over Portsmouth at the weekend.

He has made three appearances in total for his temporary employers after spending most of the campaign on the bench.

Celtic’s interest in Bursik comes at a time when there is a great deal of uncertainty over the senior keeper positions at the club beyond this season.

Fraser Forster is due to return to parent club Southampton at the end of the campaign, while Craig Gordon is out of contract next summer and revealed last week there have been no talks with the club over an extension.

In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that Brendan Rodgers is ready to blow his former club out of the water to sign 6ft 4in colossus in January.
