Liverpool rising star Leighton Clarkson has agreed the terms of a three-year professional contract with the club, Football Insider can reveal.
The creative midfielder, 17, was a key member of the club’s victorious FA Youth Cup squad last season that defeated Manchester City in the final.
A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that Clarkson has already finalised the paperwork of the deal after reaching an agreement with the club.
The Merseysiders have high hopes for the teenager, who joined the club as a boy and has risen through the ranks to be a regular for their Under-18s and Under-19s.
Clarkson, who turns 18 in October, is a central midfielder who can play in deep or more attacking roles and is renowned for his range of passing.
He has made 29 appearances for Liverpool Under-18s and directly contributed to 11 goals, scoring four times and supplying seven assists.
Liverpool have moved to tie Clarkson to a long-term contract after release a number of age-group players when their contracts expired at the end of last month.
