Coventry City midfielder Zain Westbrooke has agreed a deal to join Bristol Rovers, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The 23-year-old looks set to leave the Sky Blues just over a month after their promotion to the Championship was confirmed.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the centre-midfielder is set to sign for League One’s Bristol Rovers after he agreed a three-year deal.
The contract will see him tied down to the Memorial Stadium until the summer of 2023.
Westbrooke was integral to a Mark Robins side that only lost three games on their way to the League One title last term after the division was curtailed in early June.
He scored four goals and added a further five assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.
Robbins appears to have deemed the Englishman surplus to requirements at St. Andrew’s after the arrival of Gustavo Hamer earlier this month.
Hamer, who was signed from PEC Zwolle for £1.35million, prefers to play as a centre-midfielder, like Westbrooke, but can also play at right-back.
The 23-year-old, who scored four goals and provided six assists in the Eredivisie last year, put pen to paper on a three-year deal in the West Midlands.
When speaking on Westbrooke’s future earlier this year, Robins said: “I think he has got a load of potential and there’s still huge room for improvement, physically. Technically and tactically I think he is very good but I think there’s room for improvement physically as well as other areas.
“From the moment I saw him I always thought, ‘yes, he’s a really good player’.”
In other Coventry City news, it can be REVEALED that Leeds United are keeping tabs on mainstay.
