Danny Mills has revealed that the Leeds United squad were protected from getting too wrapped up in the club’s centenary celebrations ahead of their clash against Birmingham City.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds and England defender lifted the lid on what went on at the club’s anniversary dinner, with a number of legendary names coming together to celebrate the club’s 100th birthday.
The celebrations saw past and present come together on Thursday evening for the event, with Saturday’s home game against Birmingham extending those celebrations to the fans at Elland Road.

However, Mills says that the current first-team were not around for long on Thursday night, suggesting that they needed protection from being overawed at the occasion against Birmingham.
Mills told Football Insider: “The atmosphere will be incredible at Elland Road today. The players have to stay calm and stay focused. There’s an awful lot going on before the game, ex-players on the pitch – some legends from the past.
“There won’t be a spare seat, the players have got to remain calm and focused. The other night, they turned up for the centenary dinner and were whisked away very, very quickly to get their rest and get prepared.”
Prior to Saturday’s clash, Leeds were left sitting fifth in the Championship table after a 2-1 defeat away at Millwall before the international break.
Their next game will see them travel to Preston North End on Tuesday before welcoming Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday to Elland Road next weekend.
In other Leeds United news, Noel Whelan has been left drooling over one player it is almost impossible for Bielsa to drop.
