Exclusive: Danny Mills impressed after West Ham launch bid for star with 199 PL apps
Danny Mills says that Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen would improve West Ham “immediately” after the Hammers launched a bid for his capture.
The former Leeds and England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the Hammers will be looking for a “short-term” fix this month after their poor start to the season.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month that the Irons had seen a bid rejected for the Welsh international by Stoke, the Championship side holding out for a fee in the region of £8million.
Mills admits he is impressed by the pursuit of the Stoke star and says he could have an immediate impact on David Moyes’ squad this season.
“I think they need a little bit of solidity in that midfield area, they need some consistency and they need players that are used to playing in the Premier League,” Mills told Football Insider.
“It’s not a long-term signing in any way, shape or form but in January it’s: ‘Who is available and who can improve our team immediately?’ Does Joe Allen go into that team and do that? He probably does, in all honesty.

“January, you’re looking at short term fixes, you’re not buying for the long-term. This is for the now. Who’s available, who can I get in now, at the right price that’s going to improve our team? I think Joe Allen does that.”
Allen, who has played for Swansea City and Liverpool before moving to Stoke, has 199 Premier League appearances under his belt.
He has been a mainstay for the Potters in the Championship this season, featuring in all but two of their league games.
