Exclusive: Danny Mills suggests Leeds may be signing Teemu Pukki
Danny Mills has claimed Teemu Pukki would be an “obvious” signing for Leeds United if they are promoted to the Premier League.
The former England international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed the 29-year-old would be a blatant choice after proving himself in the top flight this season.
The striker has been a rare success story in an otherwise disappointing season for Norwich City.
The Canaries currently sit bottom of the Premier League with action suspended until April 4 due to coronavirus.
Pukki is the club’s top scorer having found the net 11 times in his debut Premier League campaign.
When asked who United may target in the summer if promoted to the top flight of English football, Mills told Football Insider: “Pukki would be the obvious choice.
“It is where does he go and what sort of fee would he command. Does he want to leave Norwich? He is the obvious one.
“He is a goalscorer and he has proven he can do it. A good position and the way that Leeds play…
“But Bielsa is a funny one and a canny one at times. He could bring in somebody completely left-field. He may well use his contacts in South-America or Spain to bring in somebody.
“I think it would be obvious that they would have to bring somebody of quality in the centre-forward position if they get promoted.”
The Finland international put pen to paper on a new contract at Carrow Road just last summer.
United are now six wins away from a return to the top flight of English football for the first time since 2004.
With Jean-Kevin Augustin having struggled since joining on loan from Red Bull Leipzig a striker is likely to be at the top of Marcelo Bielsa’s summer shopping list.
In other Leeds United news, Kevin Phillips has told Football Insider the Whites should move to sign English talent who has blown him away.
