Darren Bent insists that Wolves’ head of recruitment John Marshall deserves a pay rise after the club’s impressive signings over the last couple of years.
The former Aston Villa and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the former Fulham midfielder has done an outstanding job at Molineux.
Marshall has overseen the capture of a number of high-profile additions to the squad in recent transfer windows, including record signing Raul Jimenez, Diogo Jota and Pedro Neto.
Bent says it is astonishing that the club have managed to convince the players they have to join the club and insists that the man overseeing it all deserves to be rewarded handsomely.
“Whoever Wolves’ recruitment officer is, he deserves a pay rise,” Bent told Football Insider.
“Over the last couple of years, he has managed to scout and bring in some serious talent. You’ve got to think about it, Ruben Neves, when he was playing in the Championship, we all knew he wasn’t a Championship player, he was a Premier League player.
“Somehow, someone has managed to convince him to spend a season in the Championship and then stay with Wolves in the Premier League. They’re doing great things.”
Wolves brought in the likes of Neto and Bruno Jordao to the club over the summer, while also turning Jimenez’ and Leander Dendoncker’s loan deals into permanent transfers.
Their latest addition is Ecuador international Leonardo Campana, who put pen to paper on Tuesday afternoon.
