Exclusive: Darren Bent reacts as Tottenham plot selling player once signed for £30m
Darren Bent believes Tottenham attacker Erik Lamela would be best off leaving the club as the Lilywhites prepare for a potential exit at the end of the season.
The former Spurs and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists that the 27-year-old would be nowhere near the first-team squad if everyone was fully fit.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, the Lilywhites are prepared to listen to offers for the Argentine this summer as he faces fierce competitions for regular action at Spurs.
Bent says that Lamela has performed best when coming on as an impact sub but that he would probably be best leaving the club in search of regular game time.
Bent told Football Insider: “He’s another one that flatters to deceive a little bit, I’m not quite sure what he does extremely well, if that makes sense.
“I know he comes on and he does things and is a good player and all this but I just don’t know what his best position. For me he’s always better when he comes off the bench as sort of an impact player.

“If everyone’s fully fit, he doesn’t get anywhere near the team. If everyone’s fit, you’re going to put Son ahead of him, Steven Bergwijn’s ahead of him, Lucas Moura’s ahead of him, Harry Kane’s got the position to himself, Lo Celso’s ahead of him.
“Where exactly does he fit in? For his own ambitions, he’s going to want to go somewhere where he’ll play week in, week out.”
Lamela, who signed a new contract until 2022 back in 2018, has a total of 209 appearances under his belt for Tottenham, having signed for £30million back in 2013.
He has played all across the forward line this season, with 22 outings, four goals and four assists under his belt.
