Exclusive: Darren Bent reacts to potentially 'Devastating' Newcastle player report
Darren Bent insists it would be “devastating” for Newcastle United if they were to lose Allan Saint-Maximin to Wolves in the summer.
The former Tottenham and England hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says the Magpies have got to keep their best players to progress as a club and that the Frenchman is in that top bracket.
The mercurial 22-year-old has been one of the standout performers for Steve Bruce this season, with the Daily Mail reporting that Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are eyeing up a potential move in the summer.
Bent insists there is no way that Newcastle should be letting their star winger depart St James’ Park, highlighting how he offers more than just a threat out wide.
Bent told Football Insider: “It would be devastating for Newcastle.
“I really like the blend of Saint-Maximin and Almiron on the wings because I think they do a lot of unselfish work but also they do a lot of running, bringing the ball up the pitch and really helping them out, getting them up the pitch.

“If they lose Saint-Maximin, I don’t know where they go from there, he’s somebody who’s got that little bit of unpredictability about him, he works hard, he can run, he can score.”
Since arriving on Tyneside from OGC Nice last summer, the wide man has played 18 times across all competitions, scoring two goals and chipping in with two assists.
He has seen injuries curtail his first campaign in England, with minor problems early on before a more lengthy layoff with a hamstring issue between December and January.
In other Newcastle United news, Alex Bruce has compared one Magpie to former heroes at St James’ Park.
