Exclusive: Darren Bent suggests 'Brilliant' Everton player does not get the respect he deserves
Darren Bent heaped praise on Everton defender Seamus Coleman and suggested he doesn’t get the respect he deserves.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England striker admitted that people have short-term memories so the Toffees defender does get harshly treated at times.
Coleman has featured 13 times across all competitions for the Toffees this season, racking up one assist in the process.
Bent explained that he thought the 31-year-old had been a great servant to the Toffees and would be in-demand if he hypothetically left Goodison Park tomorrow.
When asked if Coleman gets the love and respect he deserves at Everton, Bent told Football Insider: “Seamus Coleman has been a brilliant servant to Everton and I think he has been a very good right-back.
“I’m sure he has had opportunities to go elsewhere, to go to the very very top, so he has been a great servant.

“Just like Leighton Baines, he has had great success there and been a great servant.
“But for Seamus Coleman, if he was to be made available, there would be no shortage of takers and people would be on his case again.
“So for me, it’s a little bit harsh (the treatment he gets) but that’s the world we live in, people want results now.
“People have very short-term memories, it’s not about what you did four or five years ago, it’s about what you’re doing now.”
Coleman has made 302 appearances for the Toffees since joining the club from Irish side Sligo Rovers in 2009.
The experienced right-back is contracted to stay at Goodison Park until 2022 after signing a long-term extension in May 2017.
