Derby County are plotting an ambitious move for Brighton forward Jurgen Locadia, Football Insider understands.
New Derby boss Phillip Cocu is a big fan of his fellow Dutchman having worked with him during his time in charge of PSV Eindhoven and he is keen to be reunited with him.
Derby, who have agreed a deal to sign Wayne Rooney in January, are looking to build a side capable of challenging for promotion to the Premier League and Cocu sees Locadia as someone who could help them do that.
A source close to Derby has told Football Insider that the club is looking to see if a move is possible by Thursday.
Locadia could find his first-team chances limited in his preferred striking role this season following the big-money arrival of Neal Maupay from Brentford earlier this month.
It remains to be seen if Brighton would consider letting Locadia leave as Graham Potter looks to keep hold of his best players ahead of the new season starting.
The 25-year-old has made 41 appearances for Brighton, scoring six goals since his arrival from PSV Eindhoven in January 2018.
