Dundee United have submitted a bid for Airdrieonians forward Thomas Robert in a bid to steal a march on Rangers and Celtic, Football Insider understands.
The 20-year-old Frenchman has been earning rave reviews for his stand-out performances for the Scottish League One side and his displays have brought him to the attention of a number of clubs in Scotland, including the two Glasgow giants, as well as in England.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Dundee United have moved quickly to try and beat their rivals to his capture and have already tabled an initial offer to Airdrie.
The son of Newcastle United legend Laurent Robert, Thomas turned down offers from top-level sides to join the North Lanarkshire outfit in a bid to play regular first-team football.
The brave decision has paid off with four goals and two assists to the young attacker’s name in 13 appearances for Airdrie.
As revealed by Football Insider last month, Rangers have kept a close eye on Robert’s development this season ahead of a potential transfer raid, while Celtic and Newcastle were also interested in signing him on a free ahead of his summer move.
The Glasgow giants are continuing to keep tabs on Robert this month.
Airdrie boss Ian Murray recently admitted that they were expecting offers for the exciting forward in this month’s transfer window, with Dundee United the first to firm up their interest with a bid.
The Tannadice club are now waiting to see if their offer for Robert will be accepted as they look to bolster their attacking options for the second half of the season.
