EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke
Everton have accepted a bid of around £2million from Wigan Athletic for defender Antonee Robinson, Football Insider can reveal.
An Everton source has told Football Insider that the USA international is closing in on a permanent move to the Championship club after he failed to make the breakthrough at Goodison Park.
This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed last month that Wigan had made a formal move for Robinson following his impression campaign on loan.
Marco Silva has given the green light for Robinson to leave for the seven-figure fee with two years remaining on his contract.
The USA international, who has played six times for his country after adding to his caps this summer, is behind first choice Lucas Digne and deputy Leighton Baines in the Everton left-back pecking order.
Robinson’s hopes of making the first-team breakthrough at Goodison Park were ended at the end of last month when Silva opted to hand Leighton Baines, 34, a one-year contract extension.
Robinson spent last season on loan at Wigan, where he made 26 appearances in all competitions and was a regular starter either side of suffering a serious ankle injury.
The left-back previously had a stint on loan at Bolton Wanderers, where he played 34 matches, but has yet to play for the Everton first team.
In the latest Everton news, Danny Mills has tipped the Merseysiders to sign an ‘Absolute menace’ who would be a “Fabulous signing”.
