Michael Brown believes that Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho may throw “incredible” Dele Alli straight into the starting XI against West Ham after his return from suspension.
The former Spurs and Fulham midfielder, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims that the intense demands of the regular games could force the manager to shake things up on Tuesday night.
Alli missed Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United after being handed a one-game ban by the FA but is available to take on the Hammers.
Brown believes that the increased demands on the fitness of squads could see regular rotation and admits it would be no great shock to see Alli included from the start.
Brown told Football Insider: “It just depends on how he fits, where he sees the loading. What you have seen is the turnaround of the squads, they’ve used more, these Premier League teams, because of this short period of time between games.
“You wouldn’t be surprised if you see Dele Alli and not just because he’s a change from someone else, he was a real mainstay in the team.
“Dele Alli is totally different – he gives you that little bit of spice, that little bit of a late run, he can ghost into the box and he’s just got real, real quality and confidence as well. What he has got is a real understanding with those other players like Kane and Son. It would be great to have him back.
“With Dele Alli, his fitness levels are incredible.”
Alli has played 35 times for Spurs this season, scoring nine times and chipping in with a further six assists.
With Alli missing against Manchester United, Mourinho started Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, Steven Bergwijn and Erik Lamela as his front four.
