Exclusive: Ex-striker blown away by what he saw Raphinha do for Leeds
Noel Whelan was “very excited” by the performance of Raphinha against Wolves and believes the attacker will prove to be a “fantastic signing” for Leeds United.
The former White and Coventry striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, was also thrilled to see a “lively, fit and hungry” Pablo Hernandez return.
Raphinha made his debut for Leeds as a second-half substitute in the 1-0 loss against Wolves on Monday night.
The Brazilian arrived from Rennes in a near-£17million deal earlier this month, putting pen to paper on a four-year contract at Elland Road.
Whelan was impressed by the pace and creativity the winger showed in an eight minute cameo against Wolves.
“Hernandez and Raphinha both looked lively when they came on,” he told Football Insider.

“Pablo is always getting on the ball, always looking to make things happen and always available for a pass. He looks lively, fit and hungry.
“Raphinha was excellent when he came on. He has a great turn of pace and delivered a fantastic ball into the box which nearly created a chance. It was very exciting to watch him.
“I do not know too much about him but the little I did say looked really positive. I think he will prove to be a fantastic signing for the club.”
Hernandez was making his first appearance since the thrilling 4-3 loss to Liverpool on the opening day of the 2020/21 campaign.
Both attackers are set to feature again against Aston Villa on Friday.
